In response to rising concern about sprawl, elected officials in Connecticut propose measures to combat sprawl.

"Increasing numbers of home seekers are being drawn to the more rural, almost totally residential, towns scattered across Connecticut's midsection, enabling them to bypass the high prices in Fairfield and Westchester Counties and the grittier quality of life in the state's largest cities. But for people who already live in these towns, the hotter demand has produced fears that unbridled home building will have undesirable consequences, and elected officials have been proposing three kinds of measures to rein in growth. These approaches are moratoriums on development, tougher environmental restrictions on developable land and impact fees on new housing."
