The city of San Francisco hit its greenhouse gas emissions reductions targets two years ahead of schedule. The city has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 28 percent since 1990—the economy grew by 78 percent in that same time period.
"San Francisco has reached an ambitious goal to reduce greenhouse gases locally two years ahead of schedule," reports the Bay City News.
"Recently compiled figures show The City’s overall greenhouse gas emissions had fallen to 28 percent below 1990 levels by 2015," according to the article. "That achievement came two years ahead of a goal, set in 2008, to hit 25 percent below 1990 levels by 2017, and puts the city on track toward its ultimate goal of an 80 percent reduction by 2050…"
The news was announced in a press release on San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee's website. The press release offers credit for the city's emissions reductions success to its comprehensive Climate Action Strategy.
