No More Free Rides on the Milwaukee County Transit System

Dealing with a tightening budget, the Milwaukee County Transit System will eliminate free rides under the Go Pass program, which offered free transit passes for qualifying riders.

"Big changes are coming to the Milwaukee County Transit System on June 26th," reports Jeramey Jannen. "The controversial GO Pass program that provides a free bus pass to senior citizens and the disabled will no longer be free. The program, which has cost millions more than expected, has provided over 13.5 million rides to-date."

The changes in June are expected to save the Milwaukee County Transit System about $1.1 million this year, starting with its 2017 budget. The system's budget has decreased $2 million since last year, and almost $5 million since 2015. Some riders who qualified for the GO Pass will still be able to access reduced-cost passes, as Jannen details in the article.
