Delays and slow financing have kept a Navy Pier flyover grounded, and cyclists are tired of getting hit as they bike around the construction.

Chicago's Lakefront is one of the most attractive and popular spots to bike, both for commuters and casual riders. A flyover at Navy Pier was supposed to improve the experience. "The flyover is meant to relieve crowding on a narrow section of the Lakefront Trail between the Chicago River and Ohio Street Beach," Jon Greenfield writes in The Chicago Reader. But the bridge's construction has proven slow and costly, "Jim Reho noted that, incredibly, it's taking as long to construct the overpass as it took to build the entire Golden Gate Bridge," Greenfield writes.
Representatives from CDOT say that the project has always been a complex one and remains on schedule. Also, they note the funding for the project is spread out over several years, so expediting the project would require expediting funding, something unlikely to happen.
