Privatizing highway development can speed up road improvements and cut costs, according to a new report.
"State, county, and city governments are grappling with severe budget deficits and looking for ways to cut costs. To assist in this cause, a new Reason Foundation report demonstrates the savings that highway and road maintenance outsourcing can bring and outlines the most effective ways for public officials to go about the privatization process... The report illustrates how governments can structure outsourcing contracts to emphasize accountability, performance, and risk sharing with their private partners.
