A proposed project to connect Rosslyn and Washington, D.C. by Gondola across the Potomac River still has support from the D.C. Council—enough support to fund an environmental study of the idea.
"DC’s 2018 budget, passed earlier this month, includes money to study how a gondola that would run between Rosslyn and Georgetown might impact the environment," reports Jon Steingart. Specifically, the D.C. council "allotted $250,000 for what council chair Phil Mendelson has called 'next steps,'" marking a "fairly big step up from what [the District Department of Transportation] has previously spent."
An earlier study by Georgetown University and the governments of Arlington and the District produced a level of support for the project, but not enough to keep Arlington County on board when it came time to talk funding.
D.C.'s budget also put plans for a streetcar extension "on ice," according to earlier reports.
