Remember the four-plus-ones? Built all over Chicago in the middle of the 20th century and now often maligned, they have four levels of residential units above one level of parking.
Now popping up is the four-into-one: a conversion of a four-unit building into a single-family home.
Rodkin surveys examples of the de-densifying redevelopment typology from around the city, and surveys real estate agents about the market trend. "People's taste for more space is robust," says Rich Anselmo, an @properties agent, in the article.
