Uber Releases Trip Data in Select Cities

Uber Movement makes publicly available data for two billion trips taken on the transportation network company. Uber says the data should benefit urban planners.

"Uber Movement, announced back in January, finally went live [earlier this week]," reports John Mannes.

"The service gives anyone access to some of Uber’s internal demand and usage data. The hope is that cities and urban planners can use the data to support projects that would help reduce congestion and generally help people get from point A to point B faster," adds Mannes."

The data is currently available for Bogotá, Boston, Manila, Sydney and Washington, D.C., offering data like travel times between neighborhoods, during events such as road closures and rush hours.

Uber created a website to announce and explain Uber Movement, describing the project as offering "anonymized data from over two billion trips to help urban planning around the world."
