Car2Go is giving an upgrade to its car sharing service in Portland, OR by phasing out the tiny Smarts in favor of larger Mercedes-Benz luxury vehicles.

Responding to what they say is customer preference, Car2Go, the car sharing service, is replacing its fleet of two-seater Smart cars with Mercedes-Benz sedans and SUVs in the Portland market. It currently provides a mix of Smart cars and Mercedes to the company's 54,000 Portland members. Elliott Njus of The Oregonian reports that prices will increase as the fleet is upgraded. The car sharing service, first introduced in the city in 2012, is competing for customers with ReachNow, another car sharing service that currently stocks BMWs and Minis.
