Bidding for the second Amazon headquarters got the creative juices flowing in Detroit, and one outcome is a new regional transit plan

The suburban bus system in Detroit, Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART), is proposing additional bus service on its limited stop routes connecting Wayne, Macomb, and Oakland counties with Detroit and Detroit Metro Airport.
The proposal comes on the heels of a bid for the new Amazon headquarters. Amazon listed high quality transit service as one of several criteria for their decision making process. Moreover, the proposal for additional transit follows a defeat in the 2016 polls for a $4.7 billion, 20-year transit master plan.
