The DART Board of Directors has ordered the expansion of police and security patrols at transit stations in Dallas, while also considering investments in new surveillance technology on light rail lines.

The DART Daily reports that it will roll out new levels of officer patrols and security guards at transit facilities "as part of its ongoing effort to improve security throughout the system."
"Additional police officers have been assigned to the three transit facilities in the West End section of Downtown Dallas – West End Station, CBD West Transfer Center, and Rosa Parks Plaza," according to the post. "These are some of DART’s busiest locations."
The new patrols follow the approval of enhanced security throughout the system by the DART Board of Directors. A November 14 resolution approved by the Board of Directors "calls on agency staff to increase the number and visibility of transit police and expand the use of technology, such as cameras at transit facilities and on vehicles to improve customer safety." The Board of Directors is also considering a plan to add security cameras to all 163 vehicles in the DART light rail fleet.
