Michigan Takes On Sprawl

"Land use is considered a critical topic in Michigan, where farmland is being gobbled up by homes and businesses at the same time that central cities are losing population. By one estimate, a 5 percent population increase would result in the development of 20 percent more land, under existing development trends.That kind of development often requires expensive public investment in sewers, roads, water lines and schools."
