A mixed-use infill project on a tiny lot in Milwaukee is causing a proportionate share of anxiety

On Milwaukee's Brady Street, a busy commercial corridor, infill sites are few and far between. A mixed-use development on a lot that is less than 5,000 square feet is creating some apprehension within the community.
Community meetings regarding the development earlier in November brought out a variety of opinions. The site, which has been vacant for 25 years, is owned by the city of Milwaukee. The city has been interested in seeing it get developed for several years, and the current proposal is for up to three commercial shops with three apartments above.
In recent years, the vacant lot has been used as an ad-hoc pocket park and has also hosted occasional events. As a result, some community members expressed their desire to see it remain a green space.
