"Mixed-use buildings, with a mix of apartments and retail, are the trend spreading across Southern California downtowns...Many downtowns in San Bernardino County have lost all their energy as malls and sprawling tracts replaced rows of stores and urban housing...mixed-use buildings in the downtown area would feed themselves economically and eventually feed the entire downtown. Hair Salons, bars, corner stores, self-service laundries and other amenities would all be frequented by the people living above."
