New York City Counts Its Homeless

Homeless advocates say New York City's estimate of 1,780 homeless living in the streets of Manhattan is too low.

"city officials say that the count that was released yesterday is accurate and will help them gauge their efforts to reduce homelessness...The survey did not include people who stayed in homeless shelters.Advocates for the homeless said that the survey was poorly done and that the city was pushing people into shelters instead of financing more permanent solutions."
