With Governor Jennifer Granholm's Smart Growth council now in business, it's time for those who pushed land use reform to the top of the state's political agenda to use the best possible strategies to make sure policy changes are meaningful and lasting. The Michigan Land Use Institute and the Sierra Club/Mackinac Chapter looked closely at the blunders and bold moves that have either sunk or saved citizen-based Smart Growth efforts in other states. The lessons for Michigan are clear.
