As Indianapolis expands its public transit, the public schools are trying a pilot program that provides bus passes for some students who would have used the school’s transit in the past.
"As IndyGo, the city's public transit system, continues expanding services, IPS is hoping to utilize the city's bus system to start replacing its own," Arika Herron reports in the Indianapolis Star. The district, which is facing a large budget shortfall, is considering eliminating yellow bus service altogether.
"The partnership will start with a two-month pilot program at Shortridge High School. As an alternative to district-provided transportation, Shortridge students will be given IndyGo bus passes to use for the months of May and August," Herron writes.
