"Q: You traveled 90,000 miles of backroads, through every state, taking more than 1,000 "house portraits" to compile this book. How did you narrow the selection down to one house for each state? "A: The picture I selected for each state would have to show an interesting house, which somehow defines or reflects the region in which it stands, but it would also have to be a good photograph."
