According to a new study, fewer than 10 percent of homes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are priced for first-time buyers.

Considering the state’s reputation for offering more affordable living than many coastal cities in America, it may come as a surprise that a new study names North Texas as the housing market with the lowest percentage of "entry level" homes on the market.

In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, only 9.8 percent of homes fall into that category, according to a study from Zillow. The other cities on the low end of that list are also somewhat unexpected: Charlotte, Atlanta, and Orlando have similarly limited choices for people looking for their first home purchase
