The U.S. offshore wind industry has gained momentum in the past year and a half.

David Roberts tracks the progress of the offshore wind industry in the United States, starting out by noting that the first wind farm in the country started operating as recently as December 2016. Since then, however, states like Massachusetts, Maryland, New York, and New Jersey have taken substantial steps developing offshore wind projects.
The Trump Administration also seems to support more offshore wind. Roberts explains with links: " In April, the Department of Interior came out in strong support of the offshore industry. Secretary Ryan Zinke wrote an op-ed boosting the industry and DOI announced two new leases off the coast of Massachusetts amounting to 390,000 acres."
