"The effort to extend and expand New York City’s speed camera program got caught up in Senate gamesmanship this week, with state Sen. Simcha Felder (D- Brooklyn), who caucuses with the Republicans, insisting that the program be tied to his proposal to station armed guards at city schools," report Dana Rubinstein and Jimmy Vielkind.

Now it's up to Governor Andrew Cuomo to call a special session of the State Legislature to ensure the program is operational at the beginning of the school year—a possibility, according to public statements by the governor. New York City Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg is one of the people calling for Governor Cuomo and the legislature to act, according to the article.

Meanwhile, nine people demonstrating in support of the speed cameras outside Governor Cuomo's New York City offices were arrested on Thursday. According to reports, some of the protestors arrested have loved ones killed by drivers.
