"Uber has been granted a short-term licence to operate in London following a court hearing," reports BBC News.

"Transport for London (TfL) refused to renew the licence when it expired last September, saying the US taxi app was not a "fit and proper" operator."

The company is still on probation for 15 months. The decision to revoke the company's license was largely sparked by concerns about how the company reports crimes.

The news coverage of Uber's newly legal status in London is supplemented with analysis by Rory Cellan-Jones, BBC technology correspondent. According to Cellan Jones, "in the end the humility strategy worked," for Uber.
