Dallas Puts a Price on Each Dockless Bike Share Bike

The city of Dallas has approved its regulatory scheme for dockless bike share operators.

Finally, about a year after hordes of multicolored bikes descended on the city, Dallas has definitive bike-share regulations. Electric scooters are coming to the city, too, after the City Council voted Wednesday to temporarily allow the stand-up two-wheelers.

Dockless bikes flooded Dallas in January, but the numbers have since decreased by half from a peak of 18,000 bikes. Bikeshare operators will now have to weight the price of a $21 fee for each bike, on top of an $808 application fee to operate in the city.

"The companies will also have to provide data about how often and where riders are using the bikes to the city four times per year," adds Young.
