The denizens of the luxury apartments near Central Park oppose the "expense" of a new homeless shelter.

A neighborhood group is suing the city of New York over its plan to convert Manhattan's old Park Savoy Hotel into a homeless shelter for single men.
The group, called the West 58th St. Coalition, claims the shelter will threaten public health and safety. Recent data from NYPD shows that homeless people tend to be the victims, not the perpetrators, of crime in the city.
The hotel is about a block from Central Park, and neighbors a building where condos sell for up to $44 million.
