San Francisco is converting empty office buildings left over from the dot-com boom into housing.

"Responding to a record glut of office space and a chronic housing shortage, the city is beginning to convert downtown buildings -- many of them empty because of the high-tech bust -- into residential projects. That means future shoppers for homes may have the option of residing at the former Chevron headquarters on Market Street, the old Home Telegraph Co. building near the gates of Chinatown or the Bank of America building above the Powell Street cable car turnaround."
