The old eastern span of the Bay Bridge has been slowly deconstructed in the years since a new span opened between Oakland and Yerba Buena Island. Now a coalition of planning entities has released a vision for the reuse of some of the old bridge's piers: as a vista point and boardwalk.

The project will require $52 million in funding—only slightly more than demolishing the piers would have cost, according to an article by Eruin Baldassari. The article reveals design visions for the new boardwalk and vista point. The project dovetails with larger plans for a new "Gateway Park" adjacent to the piers.
