The plan will serve as a guide for the development of safe and accessible bikeways and paths within unincorporated areas of L.A. County and along County flood control district channels.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works (PW) has started the process of updating the Los Angeles County Bicycle Master Plan (BMP). The current BMP was last updated over ten years ago in 2012. The new BMP will serve as a guide for the development of safe and accessible bikeways and paths within unincorporated areas of L.A. County and along County flood control district channels.
With a vision to “make bicycling safe, convenient, and accessible for all ages and abilities in LA County,” the BMP will propose new bikeways, revisit the feasibility of unconstructed bikeways from the 2012 plan, incorporate new policies to share bikeway facilities with micro-mobility devices, identify first/last mile bikeway improvements to further connect to transit stations and bus stops, and prepare for the programmatic environmental impact report.
The public is encouraged to help shape the BMP. As part of the process of preparing the BMP, PW is engaging with community members, community-based organizations (CBOs), and advisory committees through in-person community open houses, virtual community meetings, community events, surveys, and other activities. PW anticipates finalizing the BMP in early 2025.
