The project is part of a larger plan to make all of the region’s bus stops universally accessible.

The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (Houston Metro) announced it completed the upgrading of 5,000 local bus stops with universal accessibility features to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
According to a Mass Transit article, the milestone is part of the agency’s 2017 Universal Accessibility Initiative, which aims to improve 9,000 bus stops with “wider sidewalks, wheelchair ramps, larger bus pads and tactile paving which assist pedestrians who are blind or visually impaired.” The article adds that “All Houston Metro-owned vehicles are ADA accessible.”
