A new Berkeley development, the largest affordable housing development in city history, is slated to house 200 low-income and homeless residents by May 2022.

In Berkeley, BRIDGE Housing and the Berkeley Food & Housing Project kicked off a project that, when completed, will be the largest affordable housing development in the city’s history: The Hope Center. "The project, which will be built on a city-owned parking lot downtown, will include a unique mix of rental housing for low-income, working families, permanent supportive housing for households transitioning out of homelessness, and shelter beds for people coming directly off the street," reports Marisa Kendall.
Residents will also have access to mental health, food, and employment services in the development located a short walk from BART. Kendall says that nonprofit organizers are hopeful that the mix of low-income and homeless residents will provide a sense of community and belonging at the Hope Center.
