Miami's Coconut Grove waterfront neighborhood may receive a makeover if city commissioners approve a new master plan. However, one questions remains: who is going to fund it?
"Miami Mayor Manny Diaz says Dinner Key's awkward, mishmash of uses can't be cured in one fell swoop, but with years of planning, Coconut Grove's slice of Biscayne Bay could again be a jewel.
'That's how you create great cities,' Diaz said. 'Paris, New York, Washington, D.C., these are cities that were planned that way.'
To turn around what Diaz says is neglected Grove waterfront, a little vision and a lot of money could be needed.
On Thursday, the Miami City Commission could approve the $165 million Coconut Grove Waterfront Master Plan, which proposes to reorganize and modernize the stretch of Biscayne Bay from Kennedy Park to Peacock Park."
