"Consumers born from 1980 to the early 1990s, known as Generation Y, prefer "electrified vehicles", predominantly hybrids, over all other types of motor vehicles, according to a Deloitte survey. "This could be a tipping point for moving electrified vehicles mainstream in the U.S.," said Craig Giffi, Deloitte vice chairman.

What's remarkable about this generation is that the smartphone has replaced the automobile as "the ultimate mobile device," according to Mark Fields, Ford Motor Co.

From USA Today - DriveOn: Study: Most Gen Y drivers want to own hybrid cars: "Six out of 10 Millennials say they would prefer to buy a hybrid or electric car over any of kind of car or truck." However, "only 2% would consider a pure electric."
