Ariel Schwartz profiles ArtHERE, a matchmaking service intended to link artists with property owners eager to integrate public art into their buildings or landscapes.
Born out of the Summer of Smart hackathon, "a series of three hackathons this past summer in San Francisco that brought together artists, community activists, developers, and urban planners to work on urban problems," ArtHERE is getting its first real world rollout in the Silicon Valley as part of the 2012 ZERO1 Biennial, reports Schwartz.
"ArtHERE is working with ZERO1 to make a number of spaces in San Jose's SoFA arts district (the Biennial's hub) available for temporary use by artists who will stick with the Biennial theme of 'Seeking Silicon Valley'."
Schwartz reports that the promising service will be expanding to San Francisco in the coming months, "in the hopes that members of the public will facilitiate matchmaking projects of their own."
