Bus Rapid Transit on Track in Albuquerque

Following three years of study, Albuquerque Mayor RJ Berry declared a “tipping point” in the city’s BRT plans. The city will require a federal matching grant to proceed.

Tina Jensen reports that the city of Albuquerque recently took the step of seeking federal funds for a Bus Rapid Transit line on the Central Avenue Corridor from 98th Street to Tramway Boulevard—the first of three potential BRT lines in the city. That line still has design work to do and would require final approval in addition to the funding.

According to the report prepared for the city of Albuquerque Transit Department, the proposed line would run along the median of the street, with both center and split platform configurations. Most of the line would require removing a travel lanes and left turn lanes in each direction.
