Kentucky Landfill No Longer Accepting New York's Trash

East Coast states will no longer be able to send their waste to a landfill in Kentucky—where regulators and residents clearly got more than they bargained for.

"The operators of that massive, troubled and stinky landfill near Ashland [Kentucky] announced Tuesday they they [sic] will phase out all rail deliveries of out-of-state trash by the end of next year," reports James Bruggers.

"The announcement comes as the company and local and state officials face lawsuits from angry citizens, pressure from Boyd County officials, and as landfill operators seek a permit renewal from Kentucky environmental regulators amid ongoing odor fines."

Boyd County had intended that the trash, which arrives by train from New York, New Jersey, would generate big revenue to public coffers.
