Manifesting predictions that many self-driving vehicles will serve as a new form of taxi service, Mercedes-Benz recently revealed some of its plans to develop a fleet of on-demand limousines.
"Germany’s oldest carmaker is making plans for a fleet of autonomous vehicles that customers can summon on demand," according to Svati Kirsten Narula.
"Dieter Zetsche, the CEO of Mercedes-Benz’s parent company, Daimler, told Reuters that the robotic limousine is 'a concrete development goal.' Daimler already owns Car2Go, a mobile car rental service, and has developed a futuristic self-driving Mercedes-Benz prototype."
The effort by Mercedes-Benz joins them with a collection of companies looking to make inroads into the autonomous car market, including Google, Uber, Apple, and more.
