An early look at designs for a protected bike lane on Florida Avenue shows the District Department of Transportation keeping pace with its tradition of ambitious bike infrastructure projects.

"DDOT's latest plan to redesign Florida Avenue shows a high quality protected bikeway between NoMa and West Virginia Avenue," reports Dan Malouff.
"This new plan came as a surprise when DDOT presented it [pdf] Tuesday night," adds Malouff. "Previous plans had only called for shorter unprotected bike lanes."
According to Malouff, the Florida Avenue corridor under study is worthy of robust bike infrastructure because it's "the only practical connection for people riding bikes to NoMa Metro from the Trinidad neighborhood or much of DC's Near Northeast."
The article includes more details about the design of the proposed Florida Avenue redesign, referencing a block-by-block plan [pdf] that the District Department of Transportation has shared online.
